Raimundo Panikkar speaks of four levels of tolerance: the pragmatic, the intellectual, the ethical
and the mystical. The pragmatic level could be portrayed by
the statement: ‘I don’t kill you and you don’t kill me’. The intellectual level ….by the statement: ‘I
don’t know something and you also do not know something so we need each other.’
The ethical level …..by the
statement: ‘I am responsible for you and you are responsible for me.’ The mystical level …..by the statement: ‘you
are my fulfillment and I am your fulfillment’
